Wild Meadow is a textured mixed-media floral painting inspired by wildflowers and soft natural colours. Wild Meadow is part of an ongoing series of textured floral paintings inspired by wildflower meadows, layered surfaces and the changing effects of light. Built on a softly textured background of off-white with gentle hints of green and teal, the painting features bold purple field scabious flower heads highlighted with touches of pink and silver leaf. Surrounding them are smaller teal blooms, creating a soft contrast that gives the piece a fresh, natural feel.
Like the other paintings in this series, some of the flowers have been individually shaped from clay, adding a subtle sculptural element and extra depth to the surface. Small pieces of silver leaf are worked throughout the painting, catching the light from different angles and creating gentle highlights across the textured background. Although there is plenty of detail within the piece, I wanted it to feel calm and balanced rather than busy. The colours are soft and slightly muted, with the silver leaf adding just enough sparkle to lift the painting without overwhelming it.
Painted on a 51cm x 51cm stretched canvas, Wild Meadow continues the theme of combining texture, light and floral forms in a simple, contemporary way.
