A contemporary mixed media floral painting featuring four vibrant red poppies set against a heavily textured white background. Delicate marks of orange, yellow, purple and gold suggest the rest of the meadow beyond the main flowers, while the deep box frame creates a striking ready-to-hang presentation. An original acrylic artwork by Scottish artist David R.
Four Poppies is a small original mixed media painting inspired by the quiet beauty of wildflower meadows. The painting doesn't try to capture every flower in the meadow - just the feeling of standing amongst them for a moment.
Created on a heavily textured surface, the painting features four bold red poppies emerging from a field of layered marks and subtle colour. Hints of orange, yellow, purple and gold weave through the textured background, suggesting the flowers and grasses that surround them without defining every detail. The result is a painting that encourages you to slow down and discover something new each time you look at it.
Unlike the larger canvases in this series, Four Poppies is presented in a deep glazed box frame, making it ready to hang and giving the artwork a wonderful sense of depth. The frame became the inspiration for the piece itself, proving that sometimes the simplest ideas lead to the most enjoyable paintings.
Painted in acrylic with handmade clay flowers and layered texture, this original artwork reflects my continuing exploration of creating calm, nature-inspired pieces that celebrate colour, texture and light.
