Lavender & Light is a heavily textured mixed-media painting inspired by soft lavender tones and wildflower textures. Built on a layered white surface with a clean white border, the piece features lavender stems and hand-sculpted clay flower heads emerging through the texture. Iridescent purples, mauves, pinks and hints of silver catch the light across the surface, giving the painting a soft shimmer and changing character throughout the day.
Lavender & Light is part of an ongoing series of textured floral paintings inspired by wildflowers, soft colour palettes and layered surfaces. Built on a heavily textured white background, the painting features a field of lavender stems and flower heads in soft shades of purple, mauve and pink, with touches of pale green and silver worked through the surface.
Like Poppy Field, some of the flower heads have been individually shaped from clay, adding depth and a subtle sculptural feel to the piece. A lot of the colours used are iridescent, so the painting changes gently depending on the light, picking up soft shimmer and highlights across the textured surface. The main textured area is framed by a simple white border which keeps the overall feel clean, calm and contemporary while allowing the detail and texture to stand out. This was one of those paintings that evolved naturally as I worked on it, becoming more about texture, softness and light than fine detail.
